“Son of man, take a stick of wood and write on it, 'Belonging to Judah and the Israelites associated with him.' Then take another stick of wood, and write on it, 'Belonging to Joseph (that is, to Ephraim) and all the Israelites associated with him'" (New International Version, Ezekiel 37:16 Multilingual).

Ketriel Blad: In other words, in order for a total restoration to take place, the restored Ephraimites from among the nations will have to become Jewish, in the legal sense of the word, thus accepting the Jewish authorities and becoming obedient to Jewish halachah. In the prophecy of Ezekiel 37:19 the Hebrew text can be understood as HaShem giving Yehuda's stick the function of being over Ephraim's stick and this way both sticks will become one. This teaches us that the Ephraimite movement that comes from heaven cannot rise apart from the Jewish people without submission to the Jewish leaders' authority. This is not for all the gentiles.

NOAM BEDEIN: Thirty-three years of diplomatic friendship between Israel and Vietnam is a proud foundation. What could be built on top of it – in agriculture, in resilience, in shared problem-solving – is a story still waiting to be written.

Hillel Fendel: Buffalo are currently raised in Moshav Bitzaron, just east of Ashdod, having been brought over from Italy. Zivotofsky says that these buffalo are the same as those that used to live here in Israel. "The Italian Jewish community still uses these animals today for their milk and meat," he said.

Hillel Fendel: Israel's Chief Rabbi has declared the water buffalo a kosher animal.
Ari Z. Zivotofsky: The Asiatic water buffalo (Bubalus arnee or Bubalus bubalis) is native to India and was probably not introduced to western Asia, i.e. the biblical lands, until shortly before the Common Era, near the very end of the biblical period.

Rafi DeMogge: I'm strongly convinced that the primary determinant of pro-Israel sentiment or lack thereof in the U.S. today is the strength of religious (typically Christian) belief, and not any particular Israeli policy. I stress these points because if I'm right about the long-term trend—that the decline in American religiosity is linked to a decline in support for Israel—then the policy implications for Israel don't follow conventional wisdom.

DAVID M. WEINBERG: The latest Iranian ICBM seems to be based on the North Korean BM25 missile with a range of 3,500 km., meaning it could reach deep into Europe.

DAVID M. WEINBERG: This accounting is particularly important as America and Israel move closer – I hope and believe – to an essential, decisive military strike on Iran's nuclear bomb facilities and missile bases.

Gal Biton: The first proper carpet, as such, is believed to have been made in Persia (now Iran) sometime around the 6th century AD. This early carpet was made from wool and was used to cover the floors of wealthy homes.

Eliyahu Safran: My grandfather references the well-known posuk (in Devarim 17:11) where we are told to always and without exception follow the decisions of the beth din (court), even if "you are convinced that they are wrong." Rashi tells us that even if the court seems to be saying that "right is left, and left is right," still we must listen.

From this my grandfather divined the lesson that we are not to stray from what our elders/chachamim teach us. Their word is God's word. We follow the Beth Din because God agrees with the Beth Din. We may not "get it" but in due time the wisdom and truth will become evident.
The last word always belongs to the beth din. God, His Torah and its legitimate interpreters.

Dalia Dassa Kaye: The past year suggests that Netanyahu's government is aiming for nothing less than the creation of a new reality on all of Israel's borders. Israel could, by design or by default, end up reoccupying parts or all of Gaza, the West Bank, and even southern Lebanon.

Neil Asher Silberman, Israel Finkelstein, David Ussishkin, and Baruch Halpern: The Book of Joshua (12:21) specifically mentions the defeat of the king of Megiddo and the allotment of his territory to the tribe of Manasseh;
