Eliyahu Safran: My grandfather references the well-known posuk (in Devarim 17:11) where we are told to always and without exception follow the decisions of the beth din (court), even if "you are convinced that they are wrong." Rashi tells us that even if the court seems to be saying that "right is left, and left is right," still we must listen.

From this my grandfather divined the lesson that we are not to stray from what our elders/chachamim teach us. Their word is God's word. We follow the Beth Din because God agrees with the Beth Din. We may not "get it" but in due time the wisdom and truth will become evident.

The last word always belongs to the beth din. God, His Torah and its legitimate interpreters.

Danites exist. Rabbinical Authorities recognize Ethiopian Jews as descendants of Dan. Ephraimites exist. Rabbinical Authorities recognize Bene Ephraim of India as descendants of Ephraim. Danite and Ephraimite exclusion from John's census may mean other things. Some possibilities include being Hidden for a strategic purpose. Not many are aware, but Jewish commentary describes how Dan was absorbed by Naphtali, while Ephraim was seized by Benjamin, mainly through territorial changes and popuation transfer. Absorption is not new. Simeon was aborbed by Judah. Also, Naphtalite territory became the territory of Manasseh, due to erosion of the Sea of Galilee in Beth Saida.

Salvation does not come from Joseph, Salvation does not come from Ephraim, and Salvation does not come from Joshua. Salvation is contingent upon Judah's recognition of Him.
