MICHAEL FREUND: Ezekiel is commanded by God to take two sticks. On one, he is to write "For Judah," and on the other "For Joseph, the stick of Ephraim." Then comes the crucial instruction: "Bring them together into one stick so that they become one in your hand" (37:17). Ezekiel's vision is not one of uniformity. The two sticks do not cease to be what they are. Judah remains Judah; Joseph remains Joseph. Unity does not erase difference – it sanctifies and elevates it by placing it within a larger shared destiny.

Ketriel Blad: In other words, in order for a total restoration to take place, the restored Ephraimites from among the nations will have to become Jewish, in the legal sense of the word, thus accepting the Jewish authorities and becoming obedient to Jewish halachah. In the prophecy of Ezekiel 37:19 the Hebrew text can be understood as HaShem giving Yehuda's stick the function of being over Ephraim's stick and this way both sticks will become one. This teaches us that the Ephraimite movement that comes from heaven cannot rise apart from the Jewish people without submission to the Jewish leaders' authority. This is not for all the gentiles.

Derech Jacob Farj Rafael Jacob

Surrender at Dacca: Birth of a Nation By Lt Gen Jfr Jacob: The campaign for the liberation of Bangladesh was short and swift, spread over some thirteen campaign days, conducted in riverine terrain highly suitable for defence. The author describes events leading to the creation of Bangladesh, beginning with the Pakistan Army’s crackdown in East Pakistan on 26 March 1971. To the outbreak of full-scale war following the Pakistani bombing of Indian airfields in the west on the evening of 3 December 1971 and the subseuent military operations leading to the surrender of Pakistan Eastern Command. Outlining the evolution of the strategy for the campaign, he details the selection of thrust lines using subsidiary dirt tracks that bypassed centres of resistance and opened up axes of maintenance later. The objectives selected were communication centres in relation to the geopolitical heart-Dacca. A concise account of the execution of the campaign is given. He highlights the role of the Mukti Bahini and the great contribution they made towards the liberation of their country. He describes the pressures exerted at the Security Council and the peo-Pakistani stance of China and the United States as well as giving a first-hand account of the negotiations and the signing of the Instrument of surrender. The author draws lessons from the political and military aspects of the campaign and highlights the lack of clear directives both political and military and the adhoc higher command set-up for the war. The lessons of 1971 have yet to be learnt. This book will be of interest to general public, armed forces, staff and war colleges and all those concerned with the business of war.

An Odyssey in War and Peace: An Autobiography Lt Gen. J.F.R. Jacob: Jews who have made India their home have flourished without adverse discrimination. Of this, the Baghdadi Sephardic community is very small in number but has produced one of India s greatest contemporary soldiers, Lt Gen. Jack Jacob. This is his fascinating story. As a small boy, Jacob, who was from a business family, was sent to a residential public school in Darjeeling along with his two brothers. When the Second World War broke out, Jacob without informing his family joined the army in 1941 to fight against the Nazis! After Independence, Gen. Jacob became a gunnery instructor for some time and subsequently was trained in an advanced Artillery and Missile course at Fort Sill in the US. A quick learner, he commanded infantry and artillery brigades, headed the artillery school, and finally the Eastern Army. Rubbing shoulders with some of the stalwarts who strode the Indian political and military arena in those times, Gen. Jacob sometimes fell foul of his bosses and twice came close to resigning. But he stuck on and the pinnacle of his career came in 1971, when he planned and oversaw operations leading to the fall of Dacca and obtained an unconditional public surrender, the only one in history, of Gen. Niazi and his army of 93,000. Written lucidly, this autobiography comes to life as a historical document recapitulating some of the most important events of the 1960s to the 90s from the defeat of the Naxalites in West Bengal, to the problems of Nagaland and Sikkim and the politics of Goa and Punjab. This is not only the story of the life of one great soldier, but provides glimpses of some of the most influential and colourful personalities who wrote the history of those tumultuous times.

thejewishlibertarian: That’s funny.
A friend of mine wrote this on Facebook. I’m sharing it here word for word.
Here’s something I agree with them about: nobody should be tortured by their government. If they are in custody, they should be allowed to talk to an attorney. If there is not enough evidence to sustain a finding of probable cause, they should not have been arrested.
Some will call me inconsistent myself because I benefit from the security of the occupation. So what? I benefit from every service the government monopolizes and forces me to use. If the government monopolized the food industry I wouldn’t stop eating. It’s just how this works. If your country routinely violates human rights norms, and that’s ok with you, you might be next. And that makes them dumb. And maybe a little bit evil, too. That isn’t Karma.
Truth bomb.

IGOR KOTLERAt the end of the 15th or the beginning of the 16th century, Makhzor Minhag Kaffa [Prayer Book of the Kafa Custom] was created by Moshe ben Yaakov, incorporating the different traditions of the disparate Crimean Jewish communities [Ashkenazi, Persian, and Romaniot], thereby consolidated all Jews of the Crimean peninsula. In more recent centuries, Crimean Jews have followed Sephardi religious tradition. Hebrew is used for religious and community purposes. Russian language prevails.

In none of these cases has the US done anything substantial to curtail or threaten these foreign expansions. But, then maybe its the outcome they deserve.

1 Maccabim 1:1-4: And it happened, after that Alexander son of Philip, the Macedonian, who came out of the land of Chettiim, had smitten Darius king of the Persians and Medes, that he reigned in his stead, the first over Greece, And made many wars, and won many strong holds, and slew the kings of the earth, And went through to the ends of the earth, and took spoils of many nations, insomuch that the earth was quiet before him; whereupon he was exalted and his heart was lifted up. And he gathered a mighty strong host and ruled over countries, and nations, and kings, who became tributaries unto him.

Does the absence of a Jewish presence negate the right to property? Short answer: No.
But if absentia were the case, Israel wouldn’t Occupy the Temple Mount. Vacation homes would be obsolete. The neglect of Greater Israel from Aza-Sinai to Transjordania is becoming untenable. The longer His heritage is ignored, the faster Judgment Day comes for all the Nations. Expect action around the Golan Heights, if Incompetence pervades.
I think, the game of Monopoly is Lost on most. You acquire houses. Not abdicate them. The ability to administrate the entire planet without actually being there is a Messianic concept. Jews should think more highly of themselves.
